    Housing Information
    The military provides two options for the use of your Basic Allowance For Housing (BAH). The first option is living on post. Your second option is using your BAH to rent or buy a home off post. We provide military friendly information to help you maximize your BAH.

    • The Housing Management Office (843) 963-3858. Contact the HMO as soon as you know you are moving. You will be provided with the latest information on local housing as well as referral services and relocation assistance. They offer counseling and guidance before entering into a lease agreement and help resolve tenant-landlord disputes.

    Joint Base Charleston On Base Housing

    • The Unaccompanied Housing Office (843) 963-7255 can assist single service members with room assignment and check-in procedures.

    • Charleston AFB on-base housing is privatized and operated by Hunt Military Communities (844) 219-9093, which offers single family homes based on rank and family size. Amenities include washer & dryer hookups, A/C, large yards and garages.

    Surrounding Areas
    Joint Base Charleston, mostly known locally as Charleston Air Force Base, is about 20 minutes from downtown North Charleston to the main base. JB Charleston also includes a naval weapons station, NWS Charleston, which is about 25 minutes from North Charleston. Summerville, Ladson, Goose Creek, Hanahan, and West Ashley are all small local communities near base. South Carolina has quite a lot to offer, with a little travel, including history, outdoor recreation, and various fairs and festivals.

    About the Installation
    Joint Base Charleston is under the jurisdiction of the United States Air Force 628th Air Base Wing, Air Mobility Command. The joint base was created when Charleston Air Force Base and the Naval Support Activity Charleston merged in October 2010 as part of the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure Initiative. Joint Base Charleston is also home to the 437th Airlift Wing whose mission is to command assigned airlift and supporting units and provide for the airlift of troops and passengers.
